a proper welcome to the weekend!

well friends, we are home from our little spring break mountain get away. we came home yesterday afternoon and reluctantly abandoned our vacation schedules and got right back into the daily rhythm of our home.

oh, and i thought i would share with you the big, huge mess my little luca made the day before we left for our mountain trip.

 this is my oven door just seconds after a pretty rock from esme's collection went through it (you can see the point of entry over there on the bottom-right corner) the safety glass splintered into millions of tiny little cracks and barely held up long enough for us to get something (our shower curtain) under it. immediately after the plastic shower liner was placed on the floor the whole glass door fell out.

 leaving me with this. it looks like it will be a pretty penny to replace the glass and i could barely sleep that night because i was so upset. but my patient husband and sweet friends pointed out that it really could have been a whole lot worse, like the new sliding glass door or our huge front picture window or the new television screen. so i am currently {trying desperately} to look at the bright side of things and not obsessing about things like the hard earned funds i was saving for a brand new camera going right into my oven door instead... sigh.

on a brighter note, i have finally stocked my organics shop with wonderful smell better butter and tiny heiny diaper balm and foaming wipe wash! and lovely hand made, organic soap is on it's way to the shop later this spring! to celebrate i am going to have a little inspired mama giveaway, so check back tomorrow for details!

sheep - wool - farm

during our recent weekend get away we drove by this sweet little sheep farm. it is beautiful, nestled in the canyon right next to the river. all of the sheep were freshly naked of their fleece. i couldn't help but stop and say hello and take a few photos of them- and thank them for their woolly sacrifice, of course!

a few summers ago while we were camping right up the road the man who owns this farm herded his flock right through our campsite on their way to a nearby grazing spot. that is a pretty exciting event if you love sheep as i do.

i am already day dreaming of a summer trip- tent camping, road side berry picking, river rock throwing, open fire cooking... and of course a friendly visit to the deep canyon, river side sheep farm.

on the salmon river - 33 weeks

this weekend we took a brief but wonderful road trip. we stayed in a favorite lodge on our favorite river. we spent the days swimming, hot tub soaking, throwing rocks into the river and watching people catch fish, both big and small. the kids crafted fishing poles out of driftwood and string. the evenings were filled with board games, more swimming and soaking and hot cocoa and fresh cookies, compliments of the lodge. i spent a fair share of the weekend knitting and drinking tea. while we drove we spotted several deer and a beautiful red fox.

we are home now, and home is a good place to be. home... made even better by mountain getaways and family fun!

we are home, safe and sound. we had ourselves a whole bunch of much needed fun!
lessons we learned during our road trip ::

throwing rocks into the river is therapeutic.

but we don't throw the pretty rocks.

bare feet in a cold stream on a hot day is heavenly.

animals eating straight out of your palm is a good way to start the day.

goggles are silly.

sensible shoes are essential.

a small hike does a body good after riding in the car for 6 hours.

on the road adventures are wonderful, but it is good to be home.

inspired to roam

our bags are packed. the car is full of fuel and ready to go. we have all of our favorite traveling snacks on hand. so off we go for a fun filled family adventure. we will visit loved ones, find pretty rocks by the river, pick cherries, sing in the car, soak our bones at the hot springs and whatever else we fancy.

back in the groove

we are home again. we actually got home wednesday afternoon but it has taken me a few days to decompress and get back into the swing of things. our trip was wonderful~ very busy, often stressful, but full of wonderful fun! i have so many photos to share but i'll start with these favorites.

here is the stuff esme' tried to take along. we had to wheel and deal with her to leave some of it at home.

my week... in color!!

we are very fortunate and get to go on a family vacation this summer! we are all very excited and thankful for the opportunity. our trip will include stops in jackson hole, wyoming, yellowstone national park, the lewis and clark caverns, and polson montana to visit grandma and grandpa. tony has some other fun things planned for us in between. we are leaving next week so i am already scrambling to get laundry done and make sure everyone has everything they need for the trip. packing for a trip like this is absolutely exhausting, and we will inevitably leave something important behind, but it is all worth it. the last time we went to yellowstone i forgot to pack my shirts. we were gone for 4 days and i only had the t-shirt i was wearing. thank goodness one of the nearby towns had a k-mart! when we returned home i found all my shirts intended for my suitcase, carefully folded and sitting on the bed. and just this last winter we went away for a long weekend and the bag containing all the clothes for myself and the baby was left behind. i told tony that if i had known that i would be wearing that outfit all weekend i would have been a little more selective when i was getting dressed!

so, while i am gone in an effort to keep my little blog from getting lonely, i am putting together some fun color inspired posts! each day of the week will be dedicated to a different color. i will post photos from around my home, my sewing room, my garden, my knitting bag, anywhere really, that include that color. my color week will be next week, monday through saturday. i would love to have you all join me!
